Red bean and barley water is a common dehumidifying drink. Many people want to cook it themselves but don’t know the steps. They want to know how to cook red bean and barley water?
How to cook red bean and barley water
1. Choose the right ingredients and wash them
Prioritize adzuki beans and barley, take 30-50 grams of each in a 1:1 ratio, put them into clean water and wash them 2-3 times to remove surface dust and impurities.; If using ordinary red adzuki beans, the cooking time needs to be extended to ensure a soft texture.
2. Pre-fried barley
Put the washed barley into an oil-free pan, stir-fry over low heat for 10-15 minutes, until the barley turns slightly yellow and has a faint burnt aroma, turn off the heat and let cool. Stir-frying can reduce the cold nature of barley and prevent gastrointestinal irritation after drinking it, which is especially suitable for people with a cold spleen and stomach.
3. Soak the ingredients in advance
Put the fried barley and adzuki beans into a container, add enough water and soak for 2-4 hours to allow the ingredients to fully absorb water and expand. Soaked ingredients are easier to cook, which can shorten the cooking time and facilitate the dissolution of active ingredients.
4. Control the amount of water and heat
Pour the soaked ingredients into the pot together with the soaking water, then add water in a ratio of 1:5, bring to a boil over high heat, then turn to low heat, cover the pot and simmer for 30-40 minutes, until the adzuki beans and barley are blooming and soft.
5. Adjust the taste as needed
You can drink the soup directly after cooking, or you can eat it with the ingredients.; If you feel the taste is bland, you can wait until the water temperature drops below 40°C and add a small amount of honey to taste. It is not recommended to add white sugar to prevent it from increasing the burden on the body.
It is recommended to drink the boiled red bean and barley water on the same day and avoid leaving it for a long time.; The amount you drink each time should be controlled at 200-300 ml. It is not advisable to overdo it to avoid increasing the burden on the gastrointestinal tract or kidneys.
