In fact, there is no standard answer at all. Both are physical and mental synchronization exercises that have been verified for decades or even thousands of years. There is no absolute statement that one is healthier than the other. The best choice is the one that suits your physical condition and exercise needs.

I have been practicing yoga for almost 7 years. In the past two years, an old knee injury I suffered from running a marathon recurred. I followed the doctor’s advice and stopped all flow yoga classes that required frequent knee bending and weight bearing. I followed the Tai Chi team downstairs for half a year. I can be considered a practitioner who has learned the ropes of both projects. There used to be a 62-year-old Aunt Zhang in the Tai Chi team. A few years ago, when she followed the trend of practicing yoga, she always did lower back splits compared to the younger ones. She stretched out her lumbar vertebrae and suffered a slight slip. She was in pain for more than half a year and did not dare to move much. After switching to Tai Chi, she followed the master to find the feeling of core strength by practicing steadily and steadily. After practicing for a year, not only did she not suffer from back pain again, she also won the first place in the elderly group in the balance beam event at the last community sports meeting. There is also a young girl born in 1995 who just started working in my yoga studio. She was dragged by her parents to do Tai Chi for half a month, and she always felt that she could not stand still. She started to practice basic Hatha yoga. Every class focused on adjusting her posture that was deformed by sedentary work. After three months, she adjusted her forward pelvis back to its normal position. The pain that caused her aunt to break into cold sweats when she came here has been relieved a lot.

Of course, this does not mean that these two exercises are all good and have no shortcomings. If you find a yoga instructor who does not even understand basic anatomy knowledge, he will force you to press your legs and open your shoulders.

My current habit is to spend 40 minutes on weeknights practicing soothing yin yoga to rub away the stiffness in my shoulders and neck and the soreness in my waist and back that I have accumulated all day long. On weekend mornings, I go to the park to practice Tai Chi with my old friends for half an hour to calm down the messy thoughts I have accumulated during the week. Doing the two projects together makes me feel much more comfortable than doing one of them. Even my previous problems with allergies and insomnia during the change of seasons have improved a lot. In fact, there is really no need to worry about who is healthier. Just like some people like to drink clear green tea, and some people like to drink mellow Pu'er. There is no distinction between high and low. The most important thing is that it suits your taste and is comfortable to drink. If you can't make up your mind, why not try two or three classes. The one that relaxes your body after practice and can persist for a long time is the option that suits you best.
