      Poria cocos is the sclerotium of the Polyporaceae fungus Poria cocos. Poria cocos grows on the roots of pine trees. Distributed in Jilin, Henan, Anhui, Zhejiang, Fujian, Taiwan, Hubei, Guangxi, Sichuan, Guizhou, and Yunnan.

      Poria cocos usually matures 8 to 10 months after planting. Its maturity sign is the appearance of turtle cracks in the field. If the sclerotia are seen to be yellow-brown on the skin without white cracks, it can be harvested. Dig it out on a sunny day, remove the sediment, pile it indoors and cover it with straw to sweat, wait until the water vapor dries, and then peel off the outer skin and dry it.

      Poria cocos has been regarded as one of the "Eight Treasures of Traditional Chinese Medicine" since ancient times.
