Cervical polyps are usually not cervical cancer. Cervical polyps are mostly benign lesions, while cervical cancer is a malignant tumor.
Cervical polyps are neoplasms formed by local hyperplasia of the cervical mucosa. In most cases, they are related to factors such as chronic inflammation and changes in hormone levels. Cervical polyps usually present with symptoms such as contact bleeding and increased vaginal discharge. Single or multiple pedunculated masses at the cervical opening can be observed through gynecological examination. Cervical cancer is a malignant lesion caused by the long-term effects of human papilloma virus infection and other factors. It may not have obvious symptoms in the early stage. As the disease progresses, symptoms such as irregular vaginal bleeding and discharge may appear. Cervical polyps and cervical cancer can be differentially diagnosed through pathological biopsy. Pathological examination of cervical polyps can show glands and fibrovascular tissue, while cervical cancer can show abnormal proliferation of cancer cells.
Although cervical polyps themselves are not cervical cancer, long-standing cervical polyps may increase the risk of local infection, and some early manifestations of cervical cancer may be similar to polyps. It is recommended that you seek medical examination promptly after discovering cervical polyps, and rule out the possibility of malignant lesions through cervical cytology examination, HPV testing and other methods. For confirmed cervical polyps, doctors may recommend observation and follow-up or surgical removal depending on the specific situation.
In daily life, you should pay attention to keeping the vulva clean, avoid unclean sex, and conduct regular gynecological examinations. You can appropriately increase foods rich in vitamins and dietary fiber in your diet, such as fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, etc., to help enhance immunity. If you notice abnormal vaginal bleeding or increased secretions, you should seek medical treatment promptly and do not treat it with self-medication. Sexually active women are recommended to undergo regular cervical cancer screening, including HPV testing and cervical cytology, for early detection and treatment of cervical lesions.
