The incidence of Alzheimer's disease is high. How can we prevent the occurrence of Alzheimer's disease? Alzheimer's, the most common form of dementia, is an incurable disease of the brain disease , which slowly damages memory and cognitive skills. Therefore, it is very important for the elderly to do preventive measures.

Recently, at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), a new study was the first to establish a direct link between fish consumption, brain structure and Alzheimer's disease. New research suggests that eating baked or broiled fish once a week will improve people's brains healthy conditions and reduce the risk of developing mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer's disease.

Study finds eating grilled fish can prevent Alzheimer's disease

According to the National Institute on Aging, the number of Alzheimer's patients in the United States is as high as 5.1 million. Mild cognitive impairment also causes memory loss, but to a lesser extent than Alzheimer's disease, but people with mild cognitive impairment often develop Alzheimer's disease.

Cyrus Raji of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center said: "Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of brain regions likely to be involved in Alzheimer's disease showed that people who ate grilled fish at least once a week had better preservation of gray matter volume. ”Gray matter volume is critical to brain health. Higher volumes maintain brain health, while reduced gray matter volume indicates brain cells are shrinking.

This study shows that weekly consumption of grilled fish is positively associated with gray matter volume in multiple areas of the brain. Grilled fish consumption is associated with volume in the hippocampus, posterior cingulate cortex, and orbitofrontal cortex. Greater volume in these areas is associated with a reduced risk of mild cognitive impairment or Alzheimer's disease. The findings also showed that people who ate grilled fish also experienced improvements in cognitive abilities.

Eating fried fish, on the other hand, did not increase brain size or protect against cognitive decline.

Tips: Pay attention to baking and grilling when grilling fish

According to the argument here, baking and broiling are completely different methods of cooking food. Baking means surrounding food with hot air to heat it, and broiling means using infrared radiation to heat food. Infrared radiation can easily burn food, especially at a close distance. Hot air heating does not have this problem. Generally speaking, ovens have different settings for baking and broiling. For barbecue steaks, an outdoor barbecue grill is used to grill food with the help of infrared radiation from the charcoal underneath the food.
