Trichomonas vaginitis is mainly caused by Trichomonas vaginalis infection, which may be induced by factors such as sexual contact, indirect contact with contaminated items, or decreased immunity. Common causes include sexually transmitted infections, sharing sanitary products, vaginal microecological imbalance, low immunity, and hormonal changes during pregnancy.

    1. Sexually transmitted infections

Trichomonas vaginalis is mainly transmitted through sexual contact, and infected men may have no obvious symptoms but become carriers. Unsynchronized treatment of sexual partners can lead to recurring infections. Patients need to receive treatment together with their partners. Commonly used drugs include metronidazole vaginal effervescent tablets, tinidazole suppositories and ornidazole capsules. Unprotected sex should be avoided during treatment.

    2. Shared sanitary products

Indirect infection may occur through contact with bath towels, toilets or swimming pools contaminated with trichomonas. Trichomonas can survive in humid environments for a long time. It is recommended to avoid sharing private items and pay attention to protection in public places. Foamy yellow-green leucorrhea may appear after infection, accompanied by vulvar itching. Timely medical diagnosis is required.

    3. Vaginal microecological imbalance

Long-term use of antibiotics or excessive vaginal douching will destroy the lactic acid bacteria and reduce the vaginal self-cleaning ability. Trichomonas are suitable for breeding in an environment with elevated pH, which is manifested by increased leucorrhea accompanied by a fishy odor. Lactic acid bacteria vaginal capsules can be used to restore the flora, combined with metronidazole tablets.

    4. Low immunity

Patients with diabetes, HIV infection, or long-term use of immunosuppressants are prone to serious infections. Trichomonas can phagocytose epithelial cells, causing mucosal congestion and damage, leading to symptoms of painful sexual intercourse or frequent urination. Underlying diseases need to be controlled, and tinidazole sodium chloride injection should be administered intravenously if necessary.

    5. Hormonal changes during pregnancy

Increased estrogen levels during pregnancy increase vaginal glycogen and promote the reproduction of trichomonas. It may cause the risk of premature rupture of membranes or premature birth. After the second trimester of pregnancy, metronidazole gel can be used for topical treatment under the guidance of a doctor. Oral medications are prohibited.

You need to keep your vulva clean and dry on a daily basis. Choose cotton breathable underwear and change it daily. During the treatment period, it is prohibited to bathe in the bath, swim, use soap to clean the perineum, and avoid spicy and irritating food. All sexual partners should be screened and treated simultaneously, and reexamined 3 months after cure to confirm that there is no recurrence. If abnormal secretions occur or itching worsens, follow-up consultation is required in time to avoid discontinuing medication on your own, which may lead to drug resistance.
