Redness, swelling and stinging of the outer skin of the testicle may be related to scrotal eczema, contact dermatitis, fungal infection, bacterial folliculitis, testicular epididymitis and other factors. It usually manifests as local redness, burning sensation, itching or stinging and other symptoms. It can be relieved by keeping clean, topical medications, oral antibiotics, etc.
1. Scrotal eczema
Scrotal eczema is usually triggered by local moisture, allergies or mental stress, and manifests as skin erythema, papules and exudation. In the acute stage, calamine lotion can be used to astringe and relieve itching, and in the chronic stage, topical hydrocortisone cream can be used as directed by your doctor. Avoid scratching on a daily basis and choose breathable cotton underwear.
2. Contact dermatitis
Contact with allergens such as laundry detergent and chemical fiber materials may cause contact dermatitis, a red and swollen rash with clear borders. It is recommended to rinse the affected area with clean water and use desonide cream for short-term anti-inflammation. Parents need to help children identify irritating items they have been exposed to recently.
3. Fungal infection
Fungal infections such as Candida are common in patients with diabetes or in long-term hot and humid environments, and are characterized by annular erythema with scaling. Ketoconazole cream can be used externally twice a day, combined with miconazole nitrate powder to keep it dry. Close-fitting clothing needs to be thoroughly disinfected to prevent recurrence.
4. Bacterial folliculitis
Infection of hair follicles with Staphylococcus aureus causes a pustular rash that is accompanied by tenderness. Mupirocin ointment can be applied, and in severe cases, cefuroxime axetil tablets can be taken orally. Avoid squeezing the pustules yourself, and pay attention to sterilizing the equipment when shaving.
5. Testicular epididymitis
Retrograde infection of the urinary system may cause testicular epididymitis, which manifests as severe pain and fever in the scrotum. Ceftriaxone sodium combined with levofloxacin needs to be injected intravenously, and the affected area should be elevated with a scrotal support while lying in bed. If an abscess forms, surgical drainage is required.
You should avoid sitting for long periods of time and wearing tight pants. Wash with warm water and dry completely every day. If persistent pain, fever or purulent discharge occurs, you must seek medical attention immediately and do not use hormonal ointments on your own. In the acute stage, sexual life should be suspended, and the diet should be light and supplemented with vitamin B to enhance skin resistance.
